Anglia

Anglia Nederland is an organization that – in association with Chichester College in England – provides a complete learning course English for primary school and secondary school and BVE (vocational and adults education). Anglia Nederland particularly engages in:

  • laying contacts between teachers English in primary schools in Europe;
  • developing exams on level for pupils and students;
  • refresher courses for teachers, in Holland as well as in England;
  • internet support.

By now Anglia is used by more than 100 primary schools to present English as a second language. Beside developing exams, Anglia gives didactical assistance and develops materials that can be used in the classroom. This is still about written material and written exams.

As a school manager, Dick Palland, one of the developers of  My name is Tom, is closely involved with Anglia. He has many contacts with teachers in several countries in Europe, but also with professionals like Liz Bangs, who is responsible for controlling the levels and the exams. The 10 levels of the ‘Anglia General English Tests’ are closely related to the ‘European Framework of References’, so that standards are guaranteed. Palland himself also uses Anglia tests to work with his pupils, and his experiences are such that it is a challenge for us to use the Anglia levels when testing in the learning course My name is Tom.

My name is Tom, part 1 will become a digital learning course for the entire primary school. The levels 1 – 4 of Anglia, will serve as starting point. The first part of the learning course (My name is Tom, part 1) is meant for the lower classes of primary school en is based on the first level of Anglia: First Step.

It is of course our challenge to develop a (natural) learning course, in which we pair new learning, digital learning and communicative acquisition of language with a good final attainment level.
Playfully learning and testing with emphasis on: communication. Receptive acquisition of language is particularly worked on in the lower classes and in the upper classes it is mainly about communicating. In essence our starting point is: developing a continuing learning course from lower classes to upper classes in primary school, and who knows we will continue with the lower classes of secondary school.
